Poppy Cottage is an 18th Century fisherman’s cottage situated on Church Street in the heart of Old Whitby. The cottage is in an excellent location in the old cobbled part of town, near to the 199 steps leading to the famous Whitby Abbey, and is within 50 yards of the beach, pubs and restaurants, and shops.
Whitby is a beautiful holiday town built on the east and west sides of an estuary on the North Yorkshire Coast. Whitby is famous for the ruins of the abbey, situated close to the cottage on the west side of the town, which provided literary inspiration for Bram Stoker's 'Dracula'. Whitby has many lovely pubs and restaurants and boasts possibly the best and freshest fish and seafood available in the country. The town also has two beaches, the first a small sandy beach within 50 yards of Poppy Cottage and the second a lovely sandy beach on the east side stretching for miles. There are many attractions to keep all ages occupied, both within Whitby and at the nearby resort of Scarborough. Forchildren, there is crazy golf, a pitch and putt, a boating lake and outdoor swimming pool, amongst other attractions on the headland on the east side. For adults, there is an abundance of pubs, restaurants and shops, and the coastline also displays the most breathtaking scenery. Robin Hoods Bay is well worth a visit with the rock pools at low tide providing entertainment for the children. Scarborough is also within an easy drive and will make a most enjoyable day out. FlamingoLand theme park and zoo is within 45 minutes drive of the town and offers attractions for all ages. Finally for the golfers, Whitby has afine old course on the headland, so beware on windy days and don't bother bringing your brolly!
